  • Advanced Veterinary Anesthesia

Elective Subject for Major ㆍ Graduate

Anesthesia is the act of preventing adverse effects from noxious pain and inducing a state appropriate for the procedure (stable anesthesia), and it is also a high-risk process with the potential for catastrophic adverse events, including death, requiring a commitment to risk management and safety (safe anesthesia). Although the quality of anesthesiology care has improved at least 10-fold over the past 20 years, unfortunately, anesthesia still contributes to major avoidable complications and deaths. Improving anesthesia-related adverse events requires "advancement or precision" in technology, equipment, training, and professional development, and finding ways to generalize precision anesthesia beyond specific populations for global improvement (systematic anesthesia). In particular, the old saying goes that there is no safe anesthetic or process of anesthesia, but only safe people who can give safe anesthesia, which means that the quality of anesthesia practitioners is an essential factor for safe anesthesia. This course provides information to anticipate, prepare for, and address the risks associated with the species and health status of the patient (companion animal, industrial animal, laboratory animal, wildlife, zoo animal) and the planned procedure in order to provide "stable, safe, and systematic anesthesia" (SSS anesthesia).
