In the 1930s, Korean poets Jeong Ji-yong, Baek Seok, and Yun Dong-ju responded to the ethical question of how poets should live and write, influenced by the spiritual struggles of European authors. They countered irrational fascism through their works, presenting the human image as the subject of the artist’s ethics and integrating the West and East, tradition and modernity, religion and culture.
