Summary

This study demonstrated that 6,6'-dihydroxythiobinupharidine (DTBN) extracted from nuphar lutea exhibits inhibitory specificity against cysteine proteases. DTBN showed the highest inhibitory activity against Cathepsin S, and docking simulations suggested an inhibitory mechanism through interaction between the cysteine sulfur and the DTBN thiaspirane ring. These findings suggest the potential for developing nupharidine derivatives for the treatment of COVID-19.
