This study argues that bridging the gap between the reality of public broadcasting and the ideology of public interest requires considering methodologies that connect ideological discussions about public interest to reality, emphasizing the understanding of public broadcasting programming as a core space for realizing public interest. An analysis of the programming goals of Korean public broadcasting from a public interest perspective revealed that public interest converges on nationalism and utilitarianism, functioning only in a formal manner.
