Summary

This study estimated annual litterfall production and species-specific leaf area index (LAI) in deciduous forests of Gwangneung, Mt. Taewha, and Mt. Gariwang, and compared them with indirect methods. The results showed that estimating LAI through litter collection is effective, and species-specific LAI was calculated for the first time in Korea. Furthermore, indirect methods can underestimate LAI depending on leaf amount and density, highlighting the need for direct measurement.
