Summary

This study examined the conceptual understanding of genetics and molecular biology among high school students to gain insights for future education. The results showed that the ‘Science’ subject in the 2009 revised curriculum improved understanding of limited concepts, while many students tended to memorize concepts without understanding their true meaning. Difficulties were observed in understanding basic principles like genes, the central dogma, and gene expression control, due to a lack of understanding of protein structure and function.
