Summary

This study explored the multi-faceted understanding of science subject matter competencies by reviewing the theoretical background of competency-based curriculum and related projects (OECD DeSeCo, NGSS, 2015 Revised National Curriculum), and analyzed the relationship between general core competencies and subject matter competencies. The results revealed issues regarding competency definition and categorization, competency dimensions, and gaps between general and subject matter competencies, with the meso-dimension identified as a potential link between the two.
