This paper discusses the impoverished situation of Korean farmers in the early 1930s amidst the Great Depression and the Gangseo Red Peasant Movement and Park Young-joon’s peasant novel “One Year” that unfolded in response. Park Young-joon published a new style of peasant novel based on his experience participating in the Red Peasant Union Movement in the Gangseo area, depicting the spontaneous class consciousness and struggle of farmers, but lost interest in the peasant movement and novels after the Gangseo Red Incident, moving to Manchuria and collaborating with Japanese imperialism.
