Summary

This study investigates the phylogeography and population genetics of the Asiatic toad (Bufo gargarizans) to understand its evolutionary history and the influence of geology and climate. Analyses of mitochondrial DNA and nuclear introns revealed two major groups: the mainland China group and the Northeast Asia group (Northeast China, Russia, and the Korean Peninsula), with the Korean Peninsula identified as a glacial refugium harboring a novel genetic clade.
