Summary

This study attempted to improve the density of gadolinium-doped ceria (GDC) electrolyte layers for solid oxide fuel cells through an optimized roll-to-roll calendaring process. The finite element method was used to determine suitable calendaring roll materials and maximum pressure, and the effect of the number of calendaring processes on layer thickness and porosity was analyzed. Experimental results showed that the optimized process reduced the thickness and porosity of the GDC electrolyte layer by 16.99% and 7.04%, respectively, demonstrating the potential for large-area, high-density electrolyte layer production.
