Summary

This study analyzes the desires of contemporary Japanese society reflected in the storytelling of the 1982 Japanese TV animation . Although commercially successful, the work has received insufficient academic research, but possesses a unique character due to the participation of enthusiasts in its production and contains a message to the Echo Boom generation from a generational perspective. In particular, through the keywords of inversionism, sentimentality, and culturalism, the unconsciousness of Japanese society members is detected, and the problematic narrative impulse is summarized as ‘impossible inversionism’, ‘teleological sentimentality’, and ‘culturalism as hyperbolic suture’.
