This study critically examines the validity of the constitutional revision advocating a 4-year term limit as an alternative to the 5-year single term. Empirical research suggests a lack of evidence supporting the claim that the 5-year single term causes political instability in Korea, and the effectiveness of a 4-year term limit is uncertain. Rather, the re-election project could lead to biased exercise of power and politicization of state affairs, potentially causing systemic instability.
