Summary

This study aimed to elucidate the origin and development of Buncheong ware by comparing the chemical composition of its body and glaze with those of Goryeo celadon and Joseon white porcelain. The analysis revealed that the Buncheong ware body was made using mica-quartz porcelain stone, similar to Goryeo celadon and Joseon white porcelain, while the glaze was made by mixing wood ash, burnt limestone, and crushed limestone in various proportions. The Buncheong ware glaze showed high similarity to Goryeo celadon and white porcelain, but the titanium dioxide content was similar to Joseon white porcelain, suggesting the use of glaze stone in the Buncheong ware glaze.
