Summary

This study analyzes novels of the liberation period from the perspective of ‘male narrative,’ interpreting the attempt to restore lost masculinity as a pathological symptom of society. It reveals that the social structural reorganization after liberation is linked to gender politics and that the literary narratives of the time defined gender hierarchies and gender roles. It particularly points out that the mansplaining phenomenon, appearing in the process of establishing male gender subjectivity, was strengthened in conjunction with patriarchy, right-wing nationalism, and American capitalism.
