This paper aims to resolve the aporia of the similarity between Zhu Xi and Spinoza, and the difference between Eastern and European modern thought, raised by Professor Han Hyung-jo. The commonality of Zhu Xi and Spinoza lies in the overlap of three layers: the religiosity of modern humanity, the universal ethics of the Axial Age, and the framework of immanent transcendence. This conclusion is supported by evolutionary biology and the theory of layered modernity.
