Summary

This study analyzed the characteristics and functions of discourse markers used at the beginning of topics in TV entertainment programs. The results showed that discourse markers account for the majority of topic shifts and play an important role in enhancing message delivery effectiveness. Specifically, discourse markers such as 'ja', 'ani', and 'a' were found to be used in various ways for topic initiation, deepening, diversion, and return.
