Summary

This study investigated the effect of organic content level on methane potential and anaerobic biodegradability of slaughterhouse sludge. Anaerobic digestion experiments on whole, liquid, and solid fractions of the sludge revealed methane potentials and biodegradabilities of 0.5-0.6 Nm3 kg-1-VSadded and 76.3-77.0% based on VS. VS-based values were more reasonable than COD-based values, likely due to underestimation of COD by NH4+ interference in highly concentrated organic materials.
