Summary

This paper examines the relationship between Froebel's core concept of ‘play’ in his educational thought and Schiller's aesthetic education. Froebel's concept of play is linked to Schiller's concept of ‘impulse’, the aesthetic form of gifts to Schiller's concept of beauty, and ‘creative impulse’ to Schiller's concept of imagination. While Froebel overcame the metaphysical limitations of Schiller, he also showed a limitation in understanding Romanticism through pantheism.
