Summary

This study explored the meaning of elementary art education and lesson critique activities through a narrative analysis of art and lesson critique stories within a same-grade teacher learning community. The results showed that teachers found meaning in elementary art education and lesson critique through expectations for improving lesson expertise, creating collaborative lessons, changes in their perspective on art classes, connecting art lessons to students’ lives, and overcoming existing lesson frameworks. These experiences serve as a basis for the communal practice of teaching and learning and the continuous improvement of art lesson expertise.
