This study defines language forms that realize politeness at the morphological and syntactic levels of Korean as ‘morphological and syntactic politeness markers’ and analyzes their semantic and functional characteristics. These markers are related to how the speaker indirectly handles a proposition, and the degree of politeness is diversified depending on the context. Furthermore, these markers perform a hedging function by weakening the speaker’s commitment while realizing politeness.
