Summary
This study explored the emergence of Metrolingualism in domestic media. As Korea enters a multicultural and multilingual society with an increase in overseas experience, a tolerant attitude towards language mixing is emerging, manifesting as urban linguistic phenomena characterized by everydayness, playfulness, identity, relocalization, and multitasking. The results showed a mixing of English and Korean in the mass media, and characteristics of urban ethnicity such as emphasizing transnational identity through multinational vocabulary and seeking a sense of belonging through the use of specific languages were identified.
