Summary

This study analyzed 1,509 papers published in the journals of the Korean Society for Social Studies Education and the Korean Association for Social Studies Education from 1963 to 2010 to examine the development of social studies education research. The results showed that social studies education research focused on curriculum and teaching-learning areas, with a balanced approach to various content areas and research methods. Notably, empirical research increased after the 1990s, and teacher participation in research was consistent, but there were shortcomings in the internationalization of academic research.
