Summary

This study analyzed national assessment data to investigate the social studies achievement of multicultural middle school students, revealing lower achievement compared to general students, particularly a high proportion of newly arrived students with basic academic skill deficiencies. They struggled with areas requiring understanding of Korean culture, such as Korean geography and history, but showed relatively higher accuracy in world history, which required less cultural context.
