Summary

This research empirically investigated the effect of sketching and digital tools on students’ creative behaviors, assuming that digital and conventional tools differently affect creativity in the design process. The study found that participants used sketching and digital tools similarly in the early design process, expanding visual notes developed during sketching with digital tools while reflecting on design guidelines. The findings suggest that interactions between sketching and digital tools have new potential in design processes and can improve creative thinking.
