Summary

This study aims to provide basic data for establishing industrial promotion strategies by surveying the current status of the assistive device industry for persons with disabilities. The survey results revealed that most companies are individually owned with small capital, and while investment in product development is being made, it is not systematic, and they are facing various difficulties. The information and communication signaling devices, prosthetics and orthotics, and mobility devices industries account for the top sales, and policy implications such as fostering leading companies, customized R&D support, and demand creation are suggested for industrial promotion.
