Summary

This study numerically analyzed the performance characteristics of a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC). The effects of porosity of the Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) and Catalyst Layer (CL), relative humidity of the anode and cathode channel gases, and electrical conductivity on fuel cell performance were investigated, resulting in the identification of conditions for maximum current density. Increased porosity and electrical conductivity led to increased current density, and current density increased with increasing anode relative humidity.
