Summary

This study critically examines the political use of the media public interest concept in Korean society through cases in the media distribution market, and attempts to derive public interest criteria beyond the conflict between marketism and public interest. Focusing on cases of universal viewing rights and content equal access, the study analyzes the criteria of media public interest and suggests the need for alternative conceptualization to overcome the problem of politicization of the public interest concept.
