This study analyzed the effectiveness of a coaching program based on the Transtheoretical Model for smoking cessation clinic patients in a public hospital. Patients in the preparation stage showed significant decreases in smoking amount, nicotine dependence, and exhaled carbon monoxide levels after participating in the program, while those in the action stage showed no changes. These results suggest that a smoking cessation coaching program in a hospital setting is effective, and emphasize the need for human and financial support for patients' smoking cessation success.
