This study analyzes German 'reader comments' and 'commentaries' to explain the relationship between text type and style. Style is considered a sub-discipline of text linguistics that studies the linguistic regularities that translate general text and text type characteristics into concrete texts, and comments possess a 'commentarial' character aimed at persuading readers of the validity of certain claims. The analysis focuses on four stylistic features of reader comments: (i) intertextuality, (ii) dialogicity, (iii) semi-publicity, and (iv) debate-likeness.
