Summary

This study aimed to deeply understand the academic activities and factors leading to academic neglect among university athletes through in-depth interviews. The results revealed that university athletes experience exclusion from academics due to separate rules outside the university's academic regulations, disconnected peer relationships, and negative perceptions of athletic clubs, and their academic performance is evaluated based on athletic achievements, indicating structural problems. These issues hinder the ability to emphasize the importance of academics to student athletes in elementary and middle schools and lead to problems in the verification process of school athletic coach expertise.
