Summary

This study redefines and characterizes the concept of ‘message’ – a key element of interpretation mechanisms – within a cognitive and linguistic context. A Message Measurement Tool (MMT) was developed to evaluate intention, situation, contents, and structure, and a preliminary test demonstrated a high correlation between the oral part of the MMT and actual interpreting performance.
