This study explores the meaning and function of public value in sports pedagogy, classifying the concept of public value as classical and modern, and presenting a reconceptualization of the concept in various social fields. By analyzing the public value of each element – sports, education, and academia – the study derives the meaning of public value in sports pedagogy, revealing its function as a tool for delivering educational value norms for social development. It also advocates for academic reflection and expansion of the educational practice area of sports pedagogy, and examines public value activities in terms of educational, cultural, integrative, and international functions.
