Summary

This study examines the national responsibility for climate change through the Dutch court case. The court ruled that the Dutch government's greenhouse gas reduction target was below international standards, constituting a violation of the state's duty of care. This is the first case to declare government climate change policies unlawful and the first to judge government actions related to climate change based on human rights law.
