This study empirically analyzes commuting patterns in the Seoul Metropolitan Area to assess the level of job-housing separation and determine whether urban development aligns with the concept of smart growth. The analysis reveals employment decentralization, but a high proportion of commuters from Incheon and Gyeonggi Province travel to major employment centers in Seoul, exacerbating job-housing separation. Furthermore, private car usage increases with lower accessibility to public transportation.
