This study explores the possibility of re-employing retired police officers as private investigators in South Korea, along with the increasing demand for private investigation. The results indicate that limitations of the police in maintaining public order, performance-based evaluation systems, and increased corporate security efforts are major causes of the rising demand. Challenges in re-employing retired police officers include differences in job duties (legislation and civil cooperation), lack of service orientation, and aging.
