Summary

This study investigated the impact of English reflection journal writing on students' self-directed English learning and English writing skills in an EFL context. The results showed that journal writing improved confidence in English writing and facilitated reflection on learning goals, suggesting the importance of intrinsic motivation and teacher support for metacognitive strategy use in self-directed learning.
