Summary

This research explored the implications of Rachel Carson’s ‘sense of wonder’ for early childhood education for sustainable development. The study found that Carson’s ‘sense of wonder’ is a core emotion leading to love and care for nature, containing messages of intimacy with nature, ecocentrism, and orientation towards ‘goals for being’. This ‘sense of wonder’ can contribute to ecosystem protection and the pursuit of harmony with nature by enhancing young children’s environmental sensitivity, fostering an ecocentric attitude, and experiencing a life oriented towards ‘goals for being’.
