Summary

This study compared the phonological characteristics of early vocabulary among children with cleft palate (CP), late talking children, and typically developing children. The results showed that children with CP had greater lexical diversity than late talking children, and both groups used fewer consonants than typically developing children. Specifically, children with CP exhibited a limited consonant inventory restricted to nasals, while late talking children had a higher ratio of stops.
