Summary

This study qualitatively analyzed the adaptation process of Korean literature majors to English medium instruction (EMI). The results showed that students exhibit characteristics such as ‘finding what to learn on one’s own’, ‘snooping around’, and ‘finding lectures that Korean is spoken more than English’ when selecting classes, and employ strategies like ‘suffering from the double whammy’, ‘studying to give up halfway’, and ‘understanding the contents in Korean and memorizing the whole sentences in English’ during class participation. This adaptation process was categorized into three themes: ‘easy class selection’, ‘ambivalence’, and ‘critical accommodation’.
