This study confirms that unfamiliar vocabulary in Bak-Suk's poems hinders poetry understanding for high school students and emphasizes the importance of pre-reading activities to address this issue. Based on identifying student difficulties and surveys, it proposes criteria for vocabulary selection suitable for building prior knowledge and suggests directions for activities to foster interest and engagement in poetry appreciation for all learners.
