Summary

This study analyzed the effects of a pre-service teacher-led self-directed learning (SDL) program on middle school students, considering individual and home environment variables. The program improved cognitive and behavioral regulation of SDL, and academic achievement showed positive effects in science. More significant improvements were observed in male students and those from higher socioeconomic backgrounds.
