Summary
This study analyzed the trend change in students’ academic achievement and educational expenses gap by their expected high school types to examine the validity of abolishing special purpose and independent private high schools in Gyeonggi Province. The results showed that students who wanted to enter these schools had higher initial academic achievement and educational expenses compared to those who did not, and the academic achievement gap widened as they progressed through school. This suggests that both academic achievement and the socio-economic background of the family influence the desire to attend these schools.
