Summary

This study analyzes the problems of the CSAT Writing Assessment and suggests improvement directions using an argument-based validity approach to enhance its validity. Interpretative arguments regarding the assessment were constructed in four categories – scoring, generalization, extrapolation, and decision – and improvement strategies such as revising function measurement biases, modifying artificial segments of the writing process, restructuring around writing-to-learn contexts, and measuring transferable capabilities were explored.
