Summary

This study investigated the perceptions and implementation of English education among elementary school students and their parents who engage in self-directed English learning without private tutoring through in-depth interviews. The findings revealed that students learn English due to their interest, while parents emphasize preparation for the future, and suggestions for successful English education included enhancing school programs, expanding English libraries, and increasing class hours. The study confirmed the importance of interest, motivation, and autonomy in self-directed learning, as well as parental support.
