Summary

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the cognitive development of 4th-grade elementary school students and the cognitive demand of activities in the ‘The mirror and the shadow’ lesson, and to identify the impact of these factors on student achievement. Students’ cognitive development was measured using the GALT test, and the cognitive demand of lesson activities was evaluated based on scientific thinking types. The results showed that about one-third of the activities were influenced by students’ cognitive development, another third by other factors besides cognitive development, and the remaining third by environmental factors.
