Summary

This study investigates the effect of sentence grammaticality on accuracy, response time, and self-reported use of explicit knowledge when Korean learners perform grammaticality judgment tasks (GJTs). Lower accuracy rates were observed for grammatical sentences with a secondary task, and more explicit knowledge was reported for ungrammatical sentences without a secondary task. These findings suggest that judging ungrammatical sentences and performing a GJT with a secondary task encourages the retrieval of explicit and implicit knowledge, respectively.
