Summary

This study analyzes the distribution and changes in French-language plays performed in Korea from 1996 to 2015. While plays of the Theatre of the Absurd have been consistently performed, the introduction of new playwrights has been concentrated within the Francophonie theatre company, and the proportion of translated French plays has decreased due to the rise of original Korean plays and the advent of postdramatic theatre. Recently, imports have been increasingly focused on commercially successful works from Broadway and the West End.
