Summary

This study explores the intersection between the demands of new era education and the identity of elementary school education, and discusses the direction of elementary social studies classes. Through focus group interviews with teachers, classroom analysis experts, and social studies education researchers, the study found that ‘elementary-ness’ in social studies classes can be manifested through cooperation, connection to real life, and combinations of different subjects. The study suggests that social studies should function as a space for practicing human relationships, realizing social scientific inquiry methods, and circulating process-oriented education.
