Summary

This study investigated the differential effect of self-esteem on the contrast effect between present pain and beautiful past memories. Nostalgia is expected to provide comfort to individuals with low self-esteem, while its effect is minimal for those with high self-esteem. Based on these findings, the necessity of a retro-based marketing strategy for individuals with low self-esteem is suggested.
