This study analyzes the subject completion system based on the high school credit system in California to explore implications for the operation of the high school credit system in Korea. California sets graduation credits differently at the state, district, and school levels, and requires re-enrollment for grades below C. The study suggests that for the successful implementation of the high school credit system in Korea, it is necessary to review graduation requirements, make efforts to open meaningful courses, establish subject completion standards, improve the quality of student choices, revitalize career coaching, and establish a connection between the high school curriculum and university entrance examinations.
